Teacher Fellowships

Grades 5-12 Teachers

Teachers are force multipliers. Deepen your own research experience — online for Level 1 and inside an Army laboratory for Level 2 — then bring it back to every student you teach.

Level 1

Level 1 application

Contact, demographic, and school information, plus five required essay questions. Responses run up to 3,000 characters each — we suggest drafting offline first.

  1. Why would you like to be involved in the Army STEM Teaching Fellows program?
  2. How do you currently involve your students in research?
  3. How do you use student data and learning outcomes to design and modify an instructional plan?
  4. What are your strengths as an instructor, and how does this benefit your students?
  5. What challenges do you face helping students master STEM content and sustain their interest in STEM careers?
Level 2

Level 2 application

Everything in the Level I application, plus three additional items to support a summer research placement.

  • A current resume, including research and/or curriculum development experience (PDF)
  • A lesson or unit plan you developed or modified, as an exemplar (PDF, up to 10 pages)
  • Two professional references willing to submit a letter of recommendation

There are 3 additional essay questions for level 2:

  1. How do YOU currently use research skills or practices (such as readings from academic journals, professional publications, experimental procedures, etc.) to guide your instructional strategies? (required)
  2. What is your perceived value of the four weeks of on-site research experience for you as a professional educator and for your students?
  3. What specific research skills or practices in a STEM discipline do you have that would set you apart from other applicants?
