Pick a problem you care about
For example, water quality, school safety, food waste — your team chooses the mission.

eCYBERMISSION is a free, virtual STEM competition for students in grades 6–9. Teams of two to four students, supported by an adult Team Advisor, select a problem in their community to investigate using science or solve using engineering. Along the way, teams build teamwork skills and interact directly with STEM professionals, competing for state, regional, and national awards.
Registration, team management, resources, and Mission Folder project submission all take place on eCYBERMISSION’s own site.

Use scientific inquiry or engineering design.
Document your work in a virtual folder judged by real STEM professionals.
The top three first-place state teams per grade per region advance to Regional Judging, then the top team in each grade per region go on to National Judging.

Every eCYBERMISSION entry is built on a specific team structure:
Registration is individual; the team has to be assembled separately. Each student and the Team Advisor create their own eCYBERMISSION account. Then, the Team Advisor creates teams and assigns registered students to a team in their account. A team isn’t complete, and can’t submit their Mission Folder for judging, until:
All three must occur before the registration deadline (February 24, 2027). A student who registers but is never added to a team, or a team with fewer than two members by the deadline, is unable to submit a Mission Folder. Team Advisors managing multiple teams should confirm both registration and team assignment for every student — not just their own account status before the deadline.
Your Team Advisor can apply for a Mini-Grant by November 11, 2026, to help fund any needed supplies and provide a Team Advisor stipend.
"Our team tested creek water behind school. A year later we were presenting to Army scientists in D.C."
eCYBERMISSION runs on volunteer support, and the roles are flexible and mostly virtual. Three tracks are open year-round:
Open to STEM professionals, educators, community members, and post-secondary students studying STEM or education.
