Professional development

Teacher Fellowships

Grades 5-12 Teachers

Teachers are force multipliers. Deepen your own research experience — online for Level 1 and inside an Army laboratory for Level 2 — then bring it back to every student you teach.

Can you spend 4 weeks at a lab next summer?

Army STEM Teacher Fellowships (formerly RESET) is a multi-tiered professional development program for middle and high school STEM teachers. Every fellow gets direct engagement with Army scientists and engineers and their research, gaining content knowledge in emerging, trans-disciplinary fields like cybersecurity, nanotechnology, and robotics, and learning how to build that knowledge into inquiry-based, hands-on classroom curriculum.

Level 1 and Level 2 teachers complete virtual professional development January through May. Level 2 fellows go further, spending four weeks conducting research in person at an Army Research Center under the direct supervision of a scientist or engineer mentor.

Two ways to participate

Every fellow does the online professional development and writes a lesson plan. Level 2 adds a summer research placement in an Army lab and a more involved application.

Level 1

Professional development + lesson plan

Entirely online, on your own schedule alongside teaching. The straightforward way in.

  • Online professional development through the Army STEM learning platform
  • Live chat sessions with Army STEM subject-matter experts
  • Write and publish one classroom lesson plan
  • No travel commitment

Application is short — a set of essay questions, no resume, lesson plan, or references needed.

Level 2

Everything in Level 1, plus summer research

Four weeks embedded with a research team at an Army laboratory, paired with a Level 1 fellow to build the lesson plan together.

  • All Level 1 professional development and chat sessions
  • 4 weeks of hands-on research at a lab site
  • Paired with a Level 1 fellow on a joint lesson plan
  • Travel, housing, and per diem reimbursed

More involved application, including your resume, lesson plan, and references.

“I had been teaching chemistry for eleven years and had never run an experiment where nobody knew the answer. That changed how I write every lab now.”
