Deep Learning
Students create a basic neural net that will simulate personality for an artificial intelligence platform by using sequence, selection, and iteration in an algorithm.
Overview
Students build a simple chatbot in Scratch while learning how neural networks and artificial intelligence work. The lesson opens with a video on machine learning and a discussion of AI in students' lives. Students then converse with the chatterbots Eliza and Cleverbot, compare them, and sort questions into categories such as reasoning, computation, feelings, and memory. They distinguish strong and weak AI and review vocabulary including neural net and feed forward structure. In the elaboration, students use lists, variables, and the ask block to program a chatbot that responds to keywords. An exit ticket closes the lesson.

- HS-ETS1-1Analyze a major global challenge to specify qualitative and quantitative criteria and constraints for solutions that account for societal needs and wants.
- HS-ETS1-2Design a solution to a complex real-world problem by breaking it down into smaller, more manageable problems that can be solved through engineering.
- HS-ETS1-3Evaluate a solution to a complex real-world problem based on prioritized criteria and trade-offs that account for a range of constraints, including cost, safety, reliability, and aesthetics as well as possible social, cultural, and environmental impacts

- HSN-Q.A.2Define appropriate quantities for the purpose of descriptive modeling.
- HSN-Q.A.3Choose a level of accuracy appropriate to limitations on measurement when reporting quantities.
- HSS-ID.A.3Interpret differences in shape, center, and spread in the context of the data sets, accounting for possible effects of extreme data points (outliers).
- HSS-ID.B.6.aFit a function to the data; use functions fitted to data to solve problems in the context of the data. Use given functions or choose a function suggested by the context. Emphasize linear, quadratic, and exponential models.
